About us
The Bark House Bakery and Kitchen was created by Suzy Marstaeller in response to her seeing more and more dogs in her grooming business suffering with sub-par health. Having worked with dogs in some form for more than 40 years, Suzy was also a veterinary nurse in her previous life and knew that this was becoming more of an issue with dogs being diagnosed with conditions such as diabetes, Cushing’s disease and pancreatitis. Skin conditions and yeast infections led to low-grade, chronic inflammation and misery for dog and owner alike…and they’re expensive to treat. Smelly skin and ears will often result in the dog being banished outdoors creating behavioural problems.
One thing they all have in common is the need for clean, wholesome food and when one of Suzy’s own dogs (Cooper) became unwell and was diagnosed as pre-Cushing’s, she knew it was time to do something about it. After several years of eating Suzy’s home-made food, Cooper’s pre-Cushing’s has never progressed into anything and he will be 15 years old in December. Suzy is happy to see more and more fresh and home-made pet food making its way into the market and believes there is truth in the saying “let food be your medicine and let medicine be your food”.
The other massive component of The Bark House is Zoe. She is Suzy’s right hand and none of this would be happening without her. When you email us it will be Zoe who will be your first point of contact. She is the Minister of the Interior at The Bark House and we would be lost without her!
We have a passionate belief that good food can equal good health which is why we also offer our Customised Meals service. We take into account food allergies or restrictions and adjust our recipes accordingly especially for your dog. That way you know exactly what is being fed to your precious pet.
Disclaimer
We do not claim to treat nor heal with our foods. Our belief is that clean, healthy food may help promote a clean, healthy gut which in turn helps their body to function better. Our foods aren't tricky, just as close to the food they'd eat if they had to catch it themselves,...and simply prepared in a way we as humans might like them to eat!
